India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the second T20I at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on October 24. The match looked difficult for India for most of the chase but Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy changed the game in the final overs.

With this win India have taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match T20I series.

New Zealand Score 180 Runs

India won the toss and decided to bowl first. New Zealand lost a few early wickets but Glenn Phillips and Bevon Jacobs helped the team recover.

Phillips played a strong innings of 70 runs from 43 balls. He hit four fours and four sixes and kept the scoreboard moving when New Zealand needed a big partnership.

Jacobs also played an important role and scored 58 runs from 46 balls. The two batters added valuable runs and helped New Zealand reach 180 for five in 20 overs.

For India Arshdeep Singh took two wickets while Prince Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Nitish Kumar Reddy picked up one wicket each.

India Struggle During the Run Chase

India needed 181 runs to win but the chase did not start as planned.

Sanju Samson scored 14 runs before losing his wicket. Young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also failed to make a big impact and was dismissed for four runs.

Abhishek Sharma managed to find a few boundaries but New Zealand's bowlers kept putting pressure on the Indian batters. Matt Henry and Jacob Duffy made it difficult for India to score freely in the early overs.

India continued to lose wickets and the required run rate kept going up. With the target still far away and only a few overs remaining the match started moving towards New Zealand.

Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy Turn the Game Around

Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy gave India the breakthrough they needed.

Tilak played with confidence and picked his shots carefully. Nitish supported him well and made sure the pressure did not get the better of him.

The pair added an unbeaten 69 runs for the seventh wicket. Their partnership completely changed the match in the final five overs.

India needed a big finish and the two batters delivered at the right time. They scored 17 runs in Jacob Duffy's 18th over and followed it with another 18 runs in Nathan Smith's over.

Suddenly the target looked much easier to reach.

Tilak remained unbeaten on 51 from just 26 balls while Nitish scored an unbeaten 26 from 13 balls.

India needed 11 runs in the final over. Nitish helped finish the job and India reached the target with four wickets in hand.

Tilak Varma Wins Player of the Match

Tilak Varma was named Player of the Match for his important innings.

His unbeaten half-century came at a time when India needed someone to take responsibility. Instead of rushing his shots he stayed at the crease and built a partnership with Nitish.

Nitish also deserves credit for the way he handled the pressure. His quick scoring in the final overs gave India the momentum needed to complete the chase.

Both players showed why partnerships are so important in T20 cricket. Even when a team loses wickets early a strong finish can change the result.

India Take a 2-0 Lead in the Series

The victory gives India a strong position in the five-match series. They had already won the first T20I by four wickets and have now registered another win by the same margin.

However the match also showed that India need to improve their top-order batting. Losing wickets early could become a bigger problem against stronger bowling attacks.

New Zealand will be disappointed after coming close to putting India under serious pressure. Their batters did well to post 180 runs but the bowlers could not stop Tilak and Nitish in the final overs.

The third T20I will give New Zealand a chance to fight back while India will look to continue their winning run.

For now Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy have given Indian fans plenty to celebrate with a memorable finish in Christchurch.
