Shafali Verma's unbeaten century and a strong bowling display helped India beat Bangladesh by 114 runs and book a place in the Asian Games 2026 gold-medal final.
India Women are through to the Asian Games 2026 final after a comfortable 114-run win over Bangladesh in the second semi-final on Sunday. India won the toss and decided to bat first at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan.
What followed was a brilliant batting show from Shafali Verma, followed by an equally strong performance from India's bowlers.
India post 195/4 in 20 overs
India finished their 20 overs at 195/4, setting Bangladesh a target of 196. Shafali Verma was the star of the innings. The Indian opener smashed an unbeaten 100 off just 49 balls, hitting three fours and nine sixes. It was not just a big score. Shafali's century also made history as the first women's cricket century in Asian Games history.
She got good support from the top order. Smriti Mandhana scored 37 off 19 balls, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur made 40 off 33 balls. Shafali and Mandhana gave India a quick start, putting on 72 runs for the first wicket. Later, Shafali and Harmanpreet added another important partnership to keep the scoreboard moving.
India vs Bangladesh scorecard
Shafali Verma's 100 becomes the big talking point
Shafali started aggressively and did not slow down. She reached her fifty in only 24 balls before going on to complete her century from 49 deliveries.
The final ball of India's innings brought up her hundred. She finished on 100 not out, with nine sixes in the innings. It was the kind of innings that put Bangladesh under pressure even before they started their chase. For India, Shafali was clearly the star player with the bat.
Bangladesh struggle in the chase
Bangladesh needed 196 to reach the final, but their innings never really got going. India's bowlers kept picking up wickets at regular intervals. Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for just 81 runs in 15.4 overs. Dilara Akter top-scored for Bangladesh with 27 runs, but there was little support from the other end as India's bowling attack kept the pressure on.
Deepti and Nandani lead India's bowling attack
While Shafali grabbed most of the attention with the bat, India's bowlers also played a major role in the win. Deepti Sharma took 3/7, while Nandani Sharma picked up 3/25.
Shree Charani also took 2/7, adding to the pressure on Bangladesh. So, if Shafali was the batting hero, Deepti Sharma and Nandani Sharma were the main bowling heroes for India.
India now face Sri Lanka in the final
With this win, India have booked their place in the gold-medal match of the Asian Games 2026. Sri Lanka had already secured their place in the final after beating Pakistan by eight wickets in the first semi-final.
India will now face Sri Lanka on September 22. It will be another big game for Harmanpreet Kaur's side, with a gold medal now within reach. For now, though, India can enjoy a semi-final win built on one unforgettable innings from Shafali Verma and a disciplined bowling performance.
The Asian Games gold-medal match is next — and India will be back on the field on September 22 with the title on the line.
